An increasingly popular treatment choice over amalgam, or silver fillings, are white fillings also called composite. Aside from looking more natural than silver fillings, they have the following benefits:
Composite fillings are made with acrylic and glass particles and contain no mercury or other metals.
They do not discolor or stain the tooth from within, unlike amalgam fillings. As silver fillings get older, they turn black and stain the tooth from within, giving the tooth a darkened dingier appearance.
Composite fillings bond to your teeth, meaning we don't have to remove as much tooth structure as compared to amalgam fillings.
Composite fillings bond to your teeth, restoring most of the original strength of the tooth, whereas amalgam fillings weaken the teeth, making them more likely to break or fracture. Since fractured or broken teeth can be more costly to treat, composite fillings can save you money in the long run.
